Apple Integration of ChatGPT into Siri And Plans To Integrate Google’s Gemini

During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple announced its venture into AI with Apple Intelligence and revealed a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri through a deal with OpenAI. Craig Federighi, SVP, further announced plans to collaborate with additional third-party AI models. He cited a specific company as the first potential partner in this endeavor, marking the beginning of Apple’s expansion into the AI landscape.

Federighi said during a post-keynote conversation, “We’re looking forward to doing integrations with other models, including Google Gemini, for instance, in the future,” He quickly added that the company had “nothing to announce right now, but that’s our general direction.”

Later this year, OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be the first third-party AI model to be integrated into Apple’s ecosystem. Notably, users will have seamless access to ChatGPT without creating an account or subscribing to premium services. Additionally, Craig Federighi confirmed that the revamped Siri in iOS 18 will transparently alert users when it switches from its in-house models to ChatGPT, ensuring a smooth and informed experience.

An Apple executive said, “Now you can do it right through Siri, without going through another tool. Siri, it’s really important to understand, will ask you before you go to ChatGPT. Then you can have that conversation with ChatGPT. Then, if there’s any helpful data referenced in your question that you might want to supply to ChatGPT, we’re going to ask, ‘Do you want to send this photo?’ From a privacy point of view, you’re always in control and have total transparency.”
