Adobe Encourages Creators to ‘Explore the Future’ with its New AI Video Generator
Adobe’s new AI video generator empowers creators to explore the future of content. Discover how this tool is reshaping video creation.
Adobe has introduced groundbreaking video generation capabilities for its Firefly AI platform, called Project Super Sonic, setting the stage for its highly anticipated Adobe MAX event. Starting today, users can experience Firefly’s video generator firsthand by visiting Adobe’s website or exploring its new AI-powered video tool, Generative Extend, available in the Premiere Pro beta app.
Firefly offers two exciting options on its website: a text-to-video model and an image-to-video model capable of producing up to five seconds of AI-generated video. Adobe has meticulously trained Firefly to create anything from animated content to photo-realistic media, depending on the user’s prompt. It includes the ability to generate videos with text—a feature that has historically challenged AI tools. The platform allows users to customize camera movements, angles, and shot sizes, enabling them to achieve professional-level results quickly.

In the Premiere Pro beta app, the new Generative Extend feature takes video editing to the next level by seamlessly extending video clips by up to two seconds. This tool allows for the smooth continuation of camera movements, subject actions, and background audio, showcasing Adobe’s first AI audio model. Although it doesn’t generate voices or music to avoid copyright issues, the potential is clear, and it’s a significant leap forward for video creators.
Adobe Firefly‘s focus on enhancing existing workflows sets it apart from competitors. Instead of solely generating videos from scratch, Firefly emphasizes problem-solving—such as extending video clips to perfect your scene. As Adobe’s VP of Generative AI, Alexandru Costin explains, the company’s goal is to empower creatives to enhance their assets rather than replace them. Firefly is designed to help professionals maximize their creativity and efficiency, streamlining tasks that previously consumed valuable time.
Adobe has already seen massive success with its AI-powered image tools in Photoshop, particularly the Generative Fill feature, which has become one of the most used features in recent history. Now, Adobe aims to replicate this triumph in the video realm, with Firefly’s new features offering editors a powerful way to complement their workflows, not replace them.
In recognition of creatives’ critical role, Adobe is compensating artists and photographers for their contributions in training Firefly’s AI. Despite concerns from some professionals, Costin confidently assures that AI will create more opportunities, not fewer. “The demand for individualized, hyper-personalized content is endless,” Costin says, emphasizing that embracing AI will allow creatives to scale their work and stay at the forefront of their industry.
Generative AI represents a new era of creative potential that allows professionals to create faster without sacrificing quality or control. “Embrace the tech,” Costin encourages, likening this shift to previous technological revolutions in digital publishing and photography. Those who adopt AI will thrive in a world with limitless content possibilities.
Adobe has taken steps to ensure transparency and safety in its AI tools, including embedding “AI-generated” watermarks in video metadata. Firefly was also designed with “commercial safety” in mind, excluding content related to drugs, violence, and other sensitive topics. As Firefly’s video generation capabilities become available to the public, we’re about to witness a new wave of creativity powered by AI that puts the user first.
